Five Convenient Homemade Snack Pouch Ideas for Infants

Some days you don’t feel like making lunches. Some days you need convince (like zoo days). But your children still need fruits, veggies, and proteins. Buying the store bought squeeze pouches aren’t ideal for really little babies. I also have control over what is in my daughters food.

One of the best things I have bought is a small device that puts purees in a pouch, best part- it’s only $20. I still have leftover disposable pouches from when I first purchased it and I will try the reusable ones down the road when my daughter is older.

As my daughter was getting into starting foods, we did decide to do Baby Led Weaning versus all purees. But, some days I don’t want to cook a who lot and I need to ensure she gets a well balanced meal. These pouches help me so much when I need to give her something quick.

Here are four easy pouch ideas that my daughter loves. Each pouch will vary on how to put them together. I cooked everything and then used the baby bullet to get it to the correct consistency before making the pouches. Then I popped them in the freezer. Place a pouch in the fridge the night before you need them and they will thaw completely.

Also, when filling the pouches, I recommend not making them too full if you have a smaller baby that is just starting solids. Smaller servings are more manageable and reduce waste.

I do not have a certain ratio on ingredients. I just added ingredients with the ratios that I thought would be good, tasted them, and adjusted as necessary.

1. Banana, Pumkin, & Cinnamon

This snack idea came about when I had too many bananas going bad and I couldn’t waste them. Just throw everything in the baby bullet, possibly with a little water, and blend together until smooth. This is by far my daughters favorite pouch.

I don’t have specific measurements to combine of each ingredient. Taste it as you go, and let the real critique (your son or daughter) give it a try as well!

2. Lemon, Blueberries, & Chickpeas

Drain and rinse the chickpeas before blending. You do not have to cook them, I also removed some of the skins that come off the chickpeas. Add just a touch of lemon juice for flavor. and as many blueberries as you wish. You will need to add water to this blend, as the chickpeas will make this a very thick puree.

This Puree blend is a great source of protein.

3. Butternut Squash, Peaches, & Spinach

For these pouches, you’ll have to make sure the butternut squash is in season. Fully cook the squash before making the puree. I diced it and put it in the instant pot on high for 10 minutes. The peaches were a frozen bag, and the spinach was a frozen container as well that I cooked before blending.

Blend everything in the baby bullet, and then push them into the pouches.

4. Applesauce

Applesauce is incredibly easy and cheap to make. My daughter absolutely loves these applesauce pouches, more than the Go-Go Squeezes even. She flew through these before I could get a photo.

I bought a large bag of Gala apples from Costco for $5. Peel, core, and dice the apples then place in a pot over the stove with a bit of water. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until the apples are completely softened. Blend together in the abby bullet and put in the pouches!

I left the applesauce plain because Gala apples have a perfect touch of sweetness to them. But you can also add cinnamon into the applesauce for flavoring.

5. Greek Yogurt, Strawberries, and Chia Seeds

Yogurt does not sit well with my 10 month old. But, this is a great cheap alternative to the store bought yogurt pouches! Add any fruit for a natural sweetener.

Blend everything until smooth, put in the pouches and freeze.
